The Revolution And Everyday Life: After 1789, many changes took place in the lives of women, men and children in France. The revolutionary governments took it upon themselves to pass laws that would translate the ideals of liberty and equality into everyday practice.

  • The revolutionary ideas of liberty and equality changed the clothes people wore, the language they spoke and the books they read.
  • Censorship was abolished, flooding the country with newspaper, pamphlets, books and printed pictures.
  • Freedom of the press implied that opposing views of events could be expressed. Each side tried to convince the other through the print medium.
  • Act flourished in the form of plays, songs and festive processions attracted large crowds of people, as they largely uneducated populace were able to identify with the new ideas.
